‘Impossible Love’ will arrive soon

The page proofs arrived last week, so my contribution to a new book on lynching in Virginia will soon be a reality.

The University of Virginia Press will publish Lynching in Virginia: Racial Terror and its Legacy this spring. Prof. Gianluca De Fazio, an associate professor at James Madison University, is the editor.

De Fazio has collected 13 essays on various aspects of lynching in Virginia, including detailed examinations of at least a half dozen incidents.

My essay is entitled Impossible Love: An Interracial Romance in Post-Reconstruction Virginia. It tells the story of Arthur Jordan, Elvira Corder and their ill-fated love affair. It is adapted from my book Condemned for Love in Old Virginia.

De Fazio maintains a website that lists 115 victims of racial terror in Virginia, from 1866 to 1932. He has dedicated the new book to them.
